Julie Christie is a British actress who began her career in 1962 with the romantic comedy “The Fast Lady.” She later found fame after taking the role of Liz in the film “Billy Liar” in 1963 opposite Tom Courtenay. In 1965, she became known in the international entertainment scene after starring in the film “Darling,” as Diana Scott.” She later bagged the lead role of Lara Antipova in the movie adaptation of the novel “Doctor Shivago.” She eventually established herself as a box-office queen in the film “Young Cassidy.”

At the age of 25, Julie Christie already earned a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for “Darling” and an Academy Award also for her role on the same film.

Among her film credits during the late 1960s and 1970s include “Far from the Madding Crowd,” “Petulia,” Robert Altman's “McCabe & Mrs. Miller,” “The Go-Between,” “Don't Look Now,” “Shampoo,” “Nashville” “Demon Seed” and “Heaven Can Wait.”

She took a break from making films during the 1980s, and only appeared in supporting roles in films such as Sidney Lumet's “Power.” She also narrated the documentary “The Animals Film,” released in 1981.

During the 1990s, Julie Christie appeared in Kenneth Branagh's “Hamlet,” and this was followed by the comedy-drama “Afterglow” in 1997. She continued to make a few more appearances on films during the 2000s, with notable yet short roles in blockbuster films such as “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” Wolfgang Petersen's “Troy,” and Marc Forster's “Finding Neverland.”

In 2006, Julie Christie starred in the film “Away From Her,” which tackled the life of a Canadian couple coping with the wife's Alzheimer's disease. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in the said year and it eventually garnered critical acclaim. “Away From Her” had its theatrical release in 2007, earning Julie Christie a string of awards including a Best Actress Award from the National Board of Review, Golden Globe Award for Best Actress- Motion Picture Drama, Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role-Motion Picture, and a Genie Award for Best Actress.

In 2008, Julie Christie appeared in the film “New York, I LoveYou,” co-starring Shia LaBeouf. The following year, she starred in the film 1939, a British movie about a family who's about to face the coming of the Second World War.
